I am taking the Challenge - CancerCare Manitoba Foundation's 17th annual Challenge for Life - because I can!
I have been participating in the Challenge for Life since 2019. I have also been participating as captain of Team Jason's Journey since 2021, and with my teammates, we have raised nearly $37,000 towards life-saving cancer research and treatment provided by CancerCare Manitoba to patients here in our province, and have walked nearly 260 kilometres in the process.
The challenge posed by cancer remains as daunting as ever, as 239,100 Canadians were estimated to have been diagnosed with cancer in 2023 (an over 5,000 person increase), and 86,700 Canadians were estimated to have died of cancer last year (a near 2,000 person increase), making it the leading cause of death. In Manitoba, 300 cancer-related deaths were estimated for 2023, an increase of 100 deaths.
I am a proud cancer fighter, having lived and battled a chronic cancer diagnosis for the last 21 years. I participate in the Challenge for Life not only to give back for the life-saving care and treatment which I have and continue to receive through CancerCare Manitoba, and not only to ensure that others do not have to endure the journey I have endured, but also to ensure that I see a world without cancer in my lifetime.
I would be very grateful for a donation of any size, and would love for you to join my team, Jason's Journey, by going to: https://support.cancercarefdn.mb.ca/site/TR/Challenge4Life/Challenge4Life2024?team_id=10556&pg=team&fr_id=1903
You can also support my team by cheering for us on June 1, as we participate in the Challenge for Life's 20 kilometre walk beginning and ending at Assiniboine Park, and starting at 9 AM (Opening Ceremonies at 8:30 AM).
Together, we can clear a path to a future without cancer! Thank You!
