Dragon boating is a physically intense sport which requires close teamwork.   After careful consideration and review of the provincial health guidelines with CancerCare Manitoba Foundation, and all stakeholders, FMG made the difficult decision to cancel this year’s Manitoba Dragon Boat Festival..

This is a very difficult time – for all of us.  Please know we are very appreciative of the steadfast support of Manitoba Dragon Boat Festival participants and donors who help the children undergoing treatment at CancerCare Manitoba.

We are disappointed this year’s Festival cannot proceed as the impact this will have on fundraising for Manitoba kids with cancer is significant.

Cancer is a complex set of more than 200 diseases affecting thousands of Manitobans each and every year.  Despite the pandemic, this year the Foundation is granting its highest amount ever to CancerCare Manitoba, more than $8.6 million which includes additional projects to support COVID-19 initiatives.  And like we do each year, we have started our fundraising at zero.

As you can most likely appreciate, the climb this year is harder than in prior years. So, each gift received – no matter the amount – helps.  We are in such unchartered territory and more than ever, are relying on the generosity of fundraisers and donors to help us fulfill this important commitment.

On behalf of your friends at CancerCare Manitoba Foundation and everyone at CancerCare Manitoba, be well and stay safe.

We look forward to brighter days ahead.
