FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions

The Ride Inside is an event where Manitobans come together to celebrate their achievements in fundraising and teamwork for kids with cancer.

The in-person event takes place over the course of an evening where friends and family come together in teams of six, with each team member pedaling for 10 minutes each. Teams race to see who can ride the furthest, cheer the loudest, and bring the most team spirit to the event. This event is designed for riders of all skill levels.

For the virtual event, choose your own ride whether individually, or with a team!

Your fundraising helps ensure Manitoba children diagnosed with cancer have access to the very best research, care and treatment. These funds are giving hope for more tomorrows for Manitobans kids and their families. Every year approximately 50 - 60 families in Manitoba will hear the words “your child has cancer.” With you in their corner, their chances for a positive outcome are better than ever before.

Participants of all ages are welcome to participate. Participants who will be under the age of 18 on the day of the event must provide a waiver signed by their parent or legal guardian at the time of registration. Children under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult who is a registered participant in the Ride Inside and a waiver must be signed by parent or legal guardian. Please contact us for participants under the age of 16 to ensure all participants can comfortably fit the bikes provided at the event.

FAQ - The Event

Wear comfortable shoes and clothes you are comfortable exercising in and a big smile!

Proper clothing can make all the difference to your experience! We have put together a list of recommended items. Most importantly, dress appropriately.

CLOTHING - Select snug-fitting (but not tight) clothing. Clothes that are too tight or too loose can create friction and chafing. Avoid untested or unwashed new clothing. Wear lightweight gym gear, such as t-shirts and shorts. Remove sweatshirts or heavy pants while cycling to avoid overheating.

We encourage all teams to get in the groove with costumes, team gear etc.! Awards will be handed out for Costumes and Team Spirit.

FOOTWEAR - Make sure you shoes fit properly to avoid blisters. Too snug or too loose is always a problem. Ensure there is a half-inch space between your longest toe and the end of your shoe. Be sure that you have enough room to wiggle your toes inside the toe box, and your heel does not slip when you walk. Choose shoes that breathe well and inspect the inside of your shoes for seams or worn areas that might produce extra friction.

PERSONAL ITEMS

BRING YOUR OWN WATER BOTTLE - Water fountains and fill stations are available on site to fill your bottles. (Plastic and single use water bottles will not be provided.)

Light snacks will be available onsite for participants to refuel.

The bikes are modern, professionally maintained hybrid bikes. They are mounted on stationary trainers set up on mats to eliminate drift or vibration. Your bike volunteer or Ride Inside crew leader will help you adjust the seat height and work the odometer. You’re in good hands!

Kilometres are tracked and awards are presented for most kilometres achieved.

Congratulations! Once you get feeling back in your legs, have some water and perhaps a snack, it’s time to cheer on your teammates after they cheered you on so enthusiastically.

You don’t need to train specifically to participate in the RIDE INSIDE. However, we do recommend you have a reasonable expectation that cycling for 10 minutes will raise your heart rate. Use the first two minutes as a warm up then ride at a pace that is comfortable for you. This doesn’t have to be an athletic competition that is your choice. The event is a celebration of your team’s accomplishments to participate, fundraise, and donate. Pace yourself to have fun!

If you feel you are unable to continue riding, let a member of your team know immediately. Please remove yourself from your bike if it is safe to do so. First aider’s onsite will come and assist you if you need. Understand your boundaries; your safety is always our first priority.

Let your team captain know, find a replacement or ask a teammate to ride for you. Remember, just because you can’t make it on event day, doesn’t mean you can’t make a difference by raising funds that profoundly impact patient outcomes.
