About CancerCare Manitoba Foundation

Some of the most tragic cases of cancer involve children and young adolescents. Paddle the big boats on the Red River in support of kids with cancer. Your fundraising ensures innovative research which leads to more discoveries every year as well as exceptional patient care and treatment. These funds are giving hope for more tomorrows for Manitobans kids and their families living with cancer.

Between 50 to 60 children will be diagnosed with cancer in Manitoba this year and over 80 per cent will be cured. This is incredible and gives us tremendous reason to hope. By registering today you can be part of the community that moves the needle to 100 per cent.

All funds raised support an internationally-recognized team of health professionals at CancerCare Manitoba who provide outstanding care for patients and their families throughout Manitoba, Northwestern Ontario and Nunavut dealing with a cancer diagnosis.

Our mission, in partnership with our donors, is to support CancerCare’s strategic priorities. Your generosity enables the Foundation to maximize the funds provided to CancerCare Manitoba each year. Donor contributions help bridge the gap of initiatives and programs not eligible for government funding or where financial resources aren’t available, including prevention, early detection, clinical trials and leading-edge research and treatment. Thanks to the generosity of donors, CancerCare Manitoba Foundation has been able to grant more than $118 million since 2000. This support to CancerCare Manitoba profoundly impacts patient outcomes.

CancerCare Manitoba is our provincially mandated agency for cancer and blood disorders. We share its bold vision, “A world free of cancer” and the goal that no life is cut short by cancer — a complex set of more than 200 diseases. CancerCare Manitoba Foundation is the only charitable organization exclusively fundraising for CancerCare Manitoba.

All of the proceeds from donations to CancerCare Manitoba Foundation stay right here in Manitoba! Some of the CancerCare Manitoba initiatives and programs receiving funding include:

  • Ground-breaking research; translating knowledge into action to directly improve care of all cancer patients in Manitoba
  • CancerCare Manitoba's Tumour Bank; conducting research into leukemia, prostate, lung, breast, and head and neck cancers
  • Clinical trials; giving patients access to leading-edge treatments and allowing researchers to develop and test potentially life-saving therapies
  • Epidemiology (the study of cancer patterns in the population), focusing on the key areas of cancer control: prevention, access and outcomes
  • Patient and Family Support Services, providing programs free of charge to anyone affected by a cancer diagnosis. Programs include the Patient and Family Resource Centre, a sanctuary with more than 5,000 patient visits every year, information and support sessions for patients and their families on common types of cancer; and Quality of Life programs including Art Therapy, Yoga, and Music to My Ears.
  • Community Oncology which enables cancer patients across the province to receive care closer to home.
