I am taking the Challenge – CancerCare Manitoba Foundation's 15th annual Challenge for Life – because I can!
From August 4-14, I will be taking the Challenge by participating in CancerCare Manitoba Foundation Challenge for Life!
2022 will be a milestone for me (and my family). On Nov 28, 2022 I will pass the five-year marker since Dr. Paul Kerr deftly removed the papillary squamous cell carcinoma tumour from the underside of my tongue - leaving my speech largely intact. (to the chagrin of some.) I am confident and optimistic that my fall 2022 check-up at CancerCare Manitoba with Dr. Kerr will be my final one. I want to also pay tribute in this email to Dr. John Embil who, on September 1, 2017, recognized a previous misdiagnosis and introduced me to Dr. Kerr. I am indebted to Dr. Embil and will forever remember his opening line, "They didn't send your file over. Tell me your story." Setting aside confirmation bias, Dr. Embil knew something didn't line up. The rest is history.
I am participating in this Manitoba-wide event as a commitment to my own health and to help make a difference for Manitobans affected by cancer.
I have agreed to raise at least $5,000 to change the course of cancer and I really need your help. Would you please support me? I know you understand why this cause is so important.
Two in five of us will be diagnosed with cancer in our lifetime and your support can make a difference for every Manitoban who will hear the words “you have cancer”.
At CancerCare Manitoba, our goal is to prevent every cancer we can; those we cannot prevent, we strive to detect early and those we do not detect early, we treat with the best available options.
