On March 25th, 2019... My mother, who was also a wife and a friend to many, passed away. 5 month prior we were given the news thousands of people are given. But you never could imagine being on the recieving end of such news. My mother had non-smokers lung cancer. It was detected at stage 4. Too late for plans. As the cancer had spread to her brain. All we could do was be there together... It is hard to imagine 2 years later. We all miss her terribly. I cannot describe who my mother was as a person. Just know she meant the world to us. Simply, she was our everything. She was selfless. Caring and brave. Just her presance in a room made your heart glow. You felt safe. I have never seen such courage and bravery and grace as she showed. We had to let the world know a little bit more of who she is/was. And the impact she had on people. My family and I joined the Challenge for Life fundrasing event in 2020. We were blown away at the support our team received. But that's just who Joanne was. She would move mountains for everyone. And everyone did what they could to symbolize that they would do the same for her.
As Cancer research is driven heavily on fundrasing. This is the biggest event for Cancer Care. And my hope is that one day we can do just that for people like my mom. And for families affected by cancer. HOPE. It's only through efforts such as this. That we give people effected by cancer hope... For Joanne Swain....
I am taking the Challenge - CancerCare Manitoba's Challenge for Life – because I can!
By participating in this “Made-in-Manitoba” event I am committed to taking steps to improve my overall health and reduce my own risk of cancer. I am also committed to raising at least $250 to support CancerCare Manitoba and all those in need.
Join me in the Challenge – by registering yourself and choosing your workout, to reach 200 minutes of fitness or 20km, or by supporting me with a donation. We'll do it together.... because we can! - We will take our newly acquired canoe out on one of the Whiteshells many rivers and lakes. Exact areas are still TBD... Stay tuned!
For the Challenge for Life I am designing my own challenge and choosing to “move” from August 5-17, 2021. While observing social distancing, we will have fun while changing the course of cancer in our province.
