This is my third time that I am taking part in the CancerCare Manitoba's Challenge for Life. I am walking in memory of my Dad and my nephew Justin.
My dad was a Boilermaker and spent many years working with asbestos. A few months after he turned 60 he was diagnosed with Mesothelioma. This type of cancer attacks the thin lining of the major organs. In four short months he lost his battle and we said goodbye to him on September 13, 2001.
My nephew Justin was just 18 years old when he passed away from brain cancer. His journey was difficult but he held his head high every step of the way! Jus said, "Live Life! Put one foot in front of the other and keep going!" His legacy will live on through scholarships to students and funding to his local community.
By participating in this “Made-in-Manitoba” event I am committed to taking steps to improve my overall health and reduce my own risk of cancer. I am also committed to raising at least $250 to support CancerCare Manitoba and all those in need.
Join me in the Challenge – by registering yourself and choosing your workout, to reach 200 minutes of fitness or 20km, or by supporting me with a donation. We'll do it together.... because we can!
The Challenge for Life is completely virtual so I am designing my own challenge and choosing to “move” from August 5-17, 2021. While observing social distancing, we will have fun while changing the course of cancer in our province.
CancerCare Manitoba is the provincially mandated cancer agency for all of Manitoba, responsible for cancer prevention, detection, treatment, research and education. CancerCare Manitoba is dedicated to excellence in cancer care, enhancing the quality of life of those diagnosed and living with cancer and blood disorders and improving cancer control for all Manitobans.
CancerCare Manitoba Foundation’s mission, in partnership with its donors, is to support CancerCare’s strategic priorities. Donor contributions help bridge the gap of initiatives and programs not eligible for government funding or where financial resources are not available. This support to CancerCare Manitoba profoundly impacts patient outcomes.
