FAQ - What to Expect on Event Day

What will I need on event day?

Wear comfortable shoes and clothes you are comfortable exercising in and a big smile!

Proper clothing can make all the difference to your experience! We have put together a list of recommended items. Most importantly, dress appropriately.

CLOTHING

Select snug-fitting (but not tight) clothing. Clothes that are too tight or too loose can create friction and chafing. Avoid untested or unwashed new clothing. Wear lightweight gym gear, such as t-shirts and shorts. Remove sweatshirts or heavy pants while cycling to avoid overheating.

We encourage all teams to get in the groove with costumes, team gear etc.! Awards will be handed out for Costumes and Team Spirit.

FOOTWEAR

Make sure you shoes fit properly to avoid blisters. Too snug or too loose is always a problem. Ensure there is a half-inch space between your longest toe and the end of your shoe. Be sure that you have enough room to wiggle your toes inside the toe box, and your heel does not slip when you walk. Choose shoes that breathe well and inspect the inside of your shoes for seams or worn areas that might produce extra friction.

PERSONAL ITEMS

HELP SAVE THE ENVIRONMENT; BRING YOUR OWN WATER BOTTLE. Water fountains and fill stations are available on site to fill your bottles.

Light snacks will be available onsite for participants to refuel.

Plastic and single use water bottles will not be provided.

What are the bikes and pedals like?

The bikes are modern, professionally maintained hybrid bikes. They are mounted on stationary trainers set up on mats to eliminate drift or vibration. Your bike volunteer or RIDE INSIDE crew leader will help you adjust the seat height and work the odometer. You’re in good hands!

Do kilometres count? Absolutely!

Kilometres are tracked and awards are presented for most kilometres achieved.

I finished my turn on the bike, what do I do now?

Congratulations! Once you get feeling back in your legs, have some water and perhaps a snack, it’s time to cheer on your teammates after they cheered you on so enthusiastically.

FAQ - Fundraising

Is there a minimum I need to raise to participate in the event?

Do any of my fundraising dollars go towards running the event?

Create your own fundraising event, have a bake sale, garage sale or barbeque. Whether you are collecting donations from your contact network or holding your own fundraising event, we are here to help! Our Fundraising Tips & Resources page has great ideas to get you started, or contact us. We'll do all we can to help you succeed!

How long do I have to raise the funds?

The sooner you register, the better! Donations are accepted up to and past event day. Please make every effort to turn in your donations one week prior to event day to allow for processing, and so you are credited with your donations prior to the day you ride.

To avoid potential lineups on event day, please try to turn in any donations in advance at the CancerCare Manitoba Foundation office, Monday to Friday, located at 825 Sherbrook Street. Entrance to the office is located on the corner of Sherbrook Street and Bannatyne Avenue across from the Health Sciences Centre. Parking is available at the loading zone by the entrance. Enter under the blue canopy on Bannatyne Avenue and follow the signs through the sliding doors on your left.

Why is there a fundraising deadline?

You’ve worked hard to fundraise; we want to make sure every dollar is counted and added to your team total ahead event day. Prizes are awarded for highest fundraiser AND we’d love to share the total amount raised at the event.

If I am not riding on event day, what happens to donations CancerCare Manitoba Foundation received on my behalf?

Your fundraising efforts will still benefit Manitoba kids with cancer through the outstanding work done at CancerCare Manitoba. We know your donors will appreciate supporting CancerCare Manitoba through the RIDE INSIDE.

If you feel you are unable to continue riding, let a member of your team know immediately. Please remove yourself from your bike if it is safe to do so, first aider’s onsite will come and assist you if you need. Understand your boundaries; your safety is always our first priority.

What if I cannot attend the ride on event day?

Let your team captain know, find a replacement or ask a teammate to ride for you.

Remember; just because you can’t make it on event day, doesn’t mean you can’t make a difference by raising funds that profoundly impact patient outcomes.
