We are taking the Challenge for CancerCare Manitoba's 10th Anniversary of Challenge for Life—because we can!
With a team of almost 50 walkers and fundraising volunteers behind Challenge for Life 2.0, Fillmore Riley’s team, Motion to Strike Cancer, has committed to raise serious funds for CancerCare Manitoba.
Through our past participation in the Challenge for Life Walk and the Dragon Boat Festival, we have raised more than $130,000 that went towards helping Manitobans of all ages affected by cancer. Our 2017 goal is to raise at least $50,000, bringing the total funds raised to $180,000.
We selected a name that’s appropriate for our profession. In court, a motion to strike is a legal motion made by a party to have an entire cause of action removed or “stricken” from the court record. Fillmore Riley’s Motion to Strike Cancer wants to see cancer stricken or eradicated so no community has to deal with the ravages of the disease.
“Giving back to the community has always been a part of Fillmore Riley’s culture,” said Team Captain Wes Burrows, a partner of Fillmore Riley. “We wanted to get behind a cause that has an impact on Manitobans. Sadly, most of us have been touched by cancer. The funds we raise will go towards prevention through education, early detection, state-of-the-art research, and world-class treatment and patient support.”
Motion to Strike Cancer has 38 participants who have each committed to raise $500 and either “walk it” or “work it” on June 10, 2017. With the help of our fundraising team, Motion to Strike Cancer will exceed the $19,000 minimum we must raise as participants.
“The Motion to Strike Fundraising Team has created a full roster of fundraising initiatives and they’re excited that their efforts will make a difference in the lives of Manitobans touched by cancer,” said Nicolle Brockie, Chair of the Fundraising Team and General Manager of Fillmore Riley. “We all have a personal connection to this cause. Our participation also aligns with our Wellness Program as we talk about healthy changes that we can make in our own lives.”
The CancerCare Manitoba Foundation is the only organization exclusively fundraising for CancerCare Manitoba. While CancerCare Manitoba works in partnership with Manitoba Health, some programs and services may not be eligible for government funding. CancerCare Manitoba Foundation raises funds to bridge this gap and help deliver the best research, patient care, treatment and support for all Manitobans and their families living with cancer.
